Typically between 4.5-5.5 lbs. Wilsons leave the shop with a 4# trigger, I've weighed quite a few of 'em. Quite a few of the Quantico built guns for MARSOC had six-plus pound triggers, I watched a friend weigh several of those, and these were "built". For every "rack-grade" GI gun, not belonging to a Tier One unit, that has a 4.5# trigger, I'll kiss your white-ass in Macy's front window and give you all morning to draw a crowd. Every one we sold had to be inspected, that included making sure the trigger didn't go below 4.5lbs. Most were in the 5.5lb range with a good bit of creep, but it was a very rare GI 1911 in that batch that had a trigger much beyond that. The gun ought to go together with a trigger in the 5lb range, that's just how the parts are made. And the trigger WEIGHT of the Wilson guns isn't any sort of trick or miracle, it's the glass rod break that's the trick. Getting a trigger light on a 1911 isn't hard at all. Getting a GOOD light trigger is the trick. Like I said, I think perhaps we've looked at different batches of 1911's. The one's I worked on were as built from the factory (albeit well used), not re-works. All had fairly light triggers that had a good bit of creep.

As for this, let me call all my buds who collect 1911's. I'll want to eat a few nasty burritos first, but I'll meet you at Macy's with a stack of guns. Gonna be a long day for you. And keep in mind, you didn't say that it had to be a good 4.5# trigger, just 4.5#.

Not much of a trick, really.........just requires getting the sear nose angle cut correctly & the hammer hooks square. Wilson's & most other top shelf 1911's usually break very clean, IME. MM

I pick the Kimbar Classic Gold Match I bought for just over 1 K twenty years ago. 100 yard groups, from a rest, iron sights, 8 into 6 inches in front of witnesses. Closer is better.

Once again, thanks to all who contributed to the 1911 discussion. This thread has caused me to rethink my personal preferences... And no, there is no likelihood of a glock in my future... For a good while now, I've figured that if I bought a nicer 1911 it would likely be a Dan Wesson. Still kinda lean that way just from experience with a few at the range, but looking at STI's website has been eye opening as well. We'll see what happens...

A friend has both the Heritage and the ECO...
The ECO pumps me right up...
And I kinda like the STI Escort that is shown on their web site...

I have a Guardian.......give it a look & feel before you drop any cash on the ECO.

Yeah... I do like the look of the Guardian, but I think I'd prefer DW's 2 dot nite sight over the novak...
I've handled and shot the ECO, but getting hands on at a LGS around here is not likely til you've put cash up front to buy... Shops are thin on the ground and mostly geared toward entry level stuff...

The Guardian has very good balance & pointing feel with moderately slim grips. The sights have different color rear dots than the front dot.
But then, I do like Commander (or 4") sized guns a lot; smaller 1911 versions, even the DW's, aren't my cup of tea.

Maybe 4-5 years ago I bought a new Dan Wesson CBOB for around $1000, by far the nicest 1911 for $1000 I've had, but stupid me sold it and now they cost much more. I've had the VBOB, which really is nicer than the CBOB, but more costly too. The full size Valor is super nice too, but the three I bought ran around 1400 for stainless or 1700 for the duty coat version. I did buy a CCO too but don't recall the price.
But looking at the features available I would go one of two ways. For less than $1000, the Sig line of 1911's are nice. A friend of mine has a Tac Ops and having owned some nice 1911's I can tell you that the Sig was NICE, very good quality and features for the price. No, it's not a "traditional" 1911, but it's a damn nice gun.
Or if it were me I might save up a little bit more money and buy a DW SPecialist, those look great and DW 1911's are top of the line for "production" 1911's.
