Had an oil tank blow about three miles from the house tonight. It rattled the windows in the house. Turns out the tank was used and mostly empty, just the sludge on the bottom and sides. A couple of guys were replacing a valve and decided to heat it with a torch to remove it. They heard it sucking air and started running. Minor burns on one guys arm were the only known injuries. The top of the tank landed about 300 yards away. Lucky bastards.

guess mabey they just learned about oil -gas - chem residues in metal tanks, should be part of their training.

I know I shouldn't be surprised by some of the stupidity in the oilfield but usually once a week I am.
