Ruger M77 MKII. Currently a factory 243. Barrel is struggling.
I have no money or plans for another build anytime soon, but I better order a barrel soon to plan for next year.
Here is what I have:
204 223 223AI 6 Creed 6.5x55 338 Win.
Not a fan of 25's. I also have a hard time rebarreling a gun to something I can buy at walmart.
Here is the short list...8 twist 22-250, 8 twist 243, 260, 6.5-284, 284 win...

8 twist 6mm-284 would be on my list.

The .260 is essentially the same as the 6.5x55 that you have. You have a great range of calibers so I think I'd stay with the .243 or go 6.5-284.

I,d think hard about a 1-8 twisted 6.5x47 Lapua. A 123g AMAX will take care of vermin and such, as far as you need to. Feel the need to play at 1000 yards? Then a 140g LRBT or Hybrid from Berger will fit the bill. Slip a 127 GR LRX BT or a 120 GR TIPPED TSX BT from Barnes into a deers chest and they become very dead, very fast. We are well over 2000 rounds,on two rifles, and the accuracy is still competitive. You wont get that or anywhere near the flexibility I just mentioned, with any 243.

Only accurate rifles are interesting.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Just call Dan Lilja, have him build you up a real shooter in a 222 Remington Magnum. The biggest problem you will encounter is that by this time next year you may have 3 or 4 more...

You might also want to get a Sako Vixen action for that barrel...

284 win and don't look back. It would fit right in. Shoot something in the 160s. I shoot a 280 AI and there just about the same.

I love 6.5's, but that 284 really does seem to fill a gap. I don't actually have to pick a cartridge, I just need to pick a bore diameter for now.
I thought about picking up a 7.08 Tikka though, so not sure I need the overlap.
This Ruger has been a good gun, so I want to keep it. That barrel is dying on the vine though. Not looking to sink a whole lot of money into it.

Creedmoor. Though money ahead to buy one OEM, sell what you have, or get a Weatherby. Believe my old gun was in the classifieds, VERY few rounds fired. A thought.

224 tth aka 22-6mm in an 1 in 8 twist or punch out chamber to 6mm-284 or contact numric arms i feel they have barrels for it reasonable.. good hunting
It is better to have it and not need it , than to need it and not have it ( by master gunsmith & very wise friend )

22-243 Ackley or a straight 22-243. 8 twist, 70gr TTSX or 80/90 gr Berger above 3300fps is pretty cool...
