On a side note, my wife has been canning corn.
She likes Kerr lids over Ball.
The Ball lids will not seal as well for her.

Boil together 13 1/2 cups water
6 cups vinegar
scant 1/2 cup pickling salt

For quart jars
put dill in jars along with garlic
Add 1 teaspoon sugar and 1/8 tsp. Alum
pack jars, fill to 1/4" with hot brine, seal and place in hot water bath. Process 10 minutes, then leave overnight or place in towels until cool.
One batch of brine does about 11 Quarts. Add peppers if so desired

We use whatever we have, so far both work ok, have done hundreds of jars. 67 jars total for pickles and they all sealed.

It seems that many feel that the most important step in making pickles is to find whatever is available (Kramer's Red Hot analgesic, lighter fluid, nuclear waste) to dump in and make them hot enough so that the flavor of the pickle never has a chance.
