Rifle thinking - Precise, succinct.
Handgun thinking - Desperate, hopeful.
Shotgun thinking - Excessive, outgoing.
Just one will not cut it -
a philosophers thinking needs to be desperate, excessive, hopeful, outgoing, succinct and precise.
So there...

Hammer1- Would you care to offer a definition of "better" that we can use for guidance in replying? Was Kant a better philosopher than Socrates? --Bob

. I'd say none of the above, maybe some who write to promote traditional archery, or primitive archery, routinely dive into the three branches of philosophy, but the three choices given would be far from that mark. Good sale/pitchman, YES, philosopher, NO.

Good sale/pitchman, YES, philosopher, NO. Back when I subscribed to bow-hunting magazines, I was somewhat surprised to find them to be some sort of religious publication.

I think it was Socrates who said that men who marry well were happy, and those that didn't became philosophers.
Be not weary in well doing.

I used to resent the hell out of Bill Cosby being declared some sort of Philosopher King based on the character in his television show. Then he came out with a bunch of truths that got the black community upset with him, and I began to like him.

None of those. It was Jimmy Soul who apparently after much delving into anthro paleontology and the history of human relationships in the context of peace and contentment at the hearth penned this brilliant observation:
"if you wanna be happy for the rest of your life Never make a pretty girl your wife. From my point of view get an ugly girl to marry you."
It just leaves lesser minds in quiet, reverent acknowledgement..

I think it was Socrates who said that men who marry well were happy, and those that didn't became philosophers. In the words of King Leonidas, that wasn't because he didn't get married, it was 'cause he was on of those "philosophers and, uh, boy-lovers".

The philosophers I enjoy most are the Jesuits who work in East Africa, especially in the bush hospitals. Posted on their web site is this philosophical statement: "Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one", Bruce Lee.
These folks grab great philosophy where they find it - and make the world a much better place while doing so.

"For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?"
Paul, Apostle to the gentiles

Seems like all of the above have an idyllic epoch. The one who probably "believes" he's the better philosopher probably smokes a pipe. Have you ever seen a useful man after 1950 that smoked a pipe?
The writer and pipe smoker probably wants you to think, or worst of all, he thinks himself to be a wise, contemplative men.
