But I wonder if showing a concealed carry permit would help with the TSA/Port Authority types who ask for a "gun license"?

My lone JFK experience mirrors a few others. In my case, after the obligitory EEKS! and some panic/confusion, A NYC police officer escorted me to the TSA station, and he carried my very heavy gun case for me which was loaded with a 416 Rigby, a 300RUM, a 44 Magnum revolver and my 12ga shotgun all in it. May have been the trip that I was also packing a Rossi carbine in 454 Casull, not sure. Worked just fine as far as I was concerned! This was coming back from Zim, before we had to overnight in J'berg on that route, and I often brought 3-5 guns along for extended trips over and different kinds of hunts to accompany.
