Considering building a 9.3 X 62 Mauser on a VZ24 with a 20" bbl and open sights for bear country. What is your opinion of this cartridge? Thanks!!

You haven't done much research in that regard, have you?

Some, but I prefer MD's opinion as I know he has used it. Get the hint?

There are several kicking around on here. Mule Deer has posted extensively about the 9.3x62. Here's a recent one.

Campfire search goes back a year, but google search goes back much farther. Maybe there are other ways to do it, but that is how I do it.

rifleman700,

One good characteristic of the 9.3x62 that's not usually mentioned is that, like a lot of other rounds with relatively smaller powder capacity for the bullet/bore, it doesn't lose much velocity in shorter barrels. I had one with a 21" barreled CZ "Stutzen" for a while and tested four loads in it one day, shooting the same loads in my 23.6" barreled CZ. The average velocity loss for all four loads was 35 fps, for an average of less than 14 fps per inch of barrel.

Mule Deer,

Thanks for your reply and thanks to HS who added links to threads that MD commented in as this is what I was looking for. I think the decision I made with this chambering was good and your posts helped verify that.
