Does anyone know a good source of load data for obsolete British sporting cartridges?

I've recently purchased an old Westley Richards cape gun chambered for 28 ga. and .300 Sherwood and can't find any specifics on the .300 Sherwood loads.

Bertram still makes brass, but I haven't any idea where to start with regard to bullet type or weight nor powder types or charges.

Any info anyone can offer would be a great help.

Spinfantry-
Early editions of Cartridges of the World list two handloads:

1) 150-grain cast bullet (Lyman #311241) with 14 grains of 4198. MV=1400

2) Same bullet with 7 grains of 2400. MV=1200 fps

I have no idea whether these are safe loads in your gun or in any gun. I think I've transcribed them correctly.

Thank you both for the information. This gets me off the ground. I'm not trying to do anything fancy with this cartridge/firearm, I'd just like to take the old girl shooting when she arrives. This gets me going in the right direction.

The collective knowledge of these forums is such a fantastic resource...

spinfantry...

I've posted something on the Africa board regarding your question.

Didn't know if you saw it or not.

I put the same attachment here for you to take a look at.

Hope this helps.

The suggestion regarding the sizing die is if you don't want to cast your own bullets, just buy them.

Lowtech...

Ballistic Software is kinda' like bore sighting...

'Gets you on paper' for you to fine tune at the range...

Small and fast? Big and slow? Whatever... Just spin a high SD bullet real fast to make it work.

Seems like I remember that a couple years ago Ross Seyfried had an article in either "Rifle" or "Handloader" that had some reloading information on both the .300 Sherwood and the .310. You might dig through some old issues and find something. Most of my old magazines got stored up in the attic recently and I don't have easy access to them.
