I think I might need to get something for my 60th Birthday. I've really liked my Browning lowwall .260rem, but it would be nice to have something that would leave a good blood trail. Gets had to track, when your color blind and the leaves have changed color. Even with good shot placement, not every deer just falls down.

I dont see how you could go wrong with a 45-70 #1 that has always been a good cartridge in my book

I love the 45-70, but I wonder if a stainless #1 is blasphemy?

If you like the way it looks and performs, then get one, hunt with it and use it! The only blasphemy thing about a firearm is to buy one and never take it to the range or hunting. no Safe Queens!

leopardprey: having an unfired gun is the same as having a virgin wife.
I have both the blue and SS #1; one for fair weather, one for foul. The SS shows less scabbard wear and is, overall, a little less maintenance. I've used the SS in rain and snow.
In the 90s several of us wrote Ruger requesting SS #1s; its good to have options, and I was pleased when they brought the #1 out in stainless.
