Like Mike I also have acquired a "few" eggs over the years and highly recommend them

I'm curious about the one next to it...

What do you cook in that little thing? Sliders?

If I've told you once, I've told you a hundred times.

I DO MY COOKING ON THE INSIDE, NOT THE OUT SIDE.

EricM - The one on the left and the one in the table are both larges (18" cooking grate).

HAJ - The little one is a mini (10" cooking grate). Cooks bigger than it looks.

Can someone extoll the benefits?

If you are in the market for a BGE-type cooker, you owe it to yourself to check out the Broil King Kegs as well. IMHO they do everything the Egg does, but better. Nothing to break, more efficient, and you can mount them on a trailer hitch. And around $500 cheaper than an Egg with the equivalent accessories.

The BKK's are identical in size to a Large BGE, so every BGE accessory is compatible. Two of my friends have bought them since I got mine 3 years ago, and they absolutely love theirs as well. Add a IQ110 temp controller for slow cooks, some Rockford lump and Dizzy rubs from Firecraft.com, and away you go!

Have you owned an Egg and have experience cooking on one?

.... just curious

I am trying to figure out how the keg would be more efficient than an egg

O.k. I'll play. I've cooked on a BKK several times at tailgates along side my LBGE. My honest take on them is they are equally good for grilling temps, but not so much for low temp and smoking. They leak air like a mother f'er and don't retain heat in cold and windy temps. Just go to some of the bbq forums and you will find threads on how to make them air tight.

Yes, BGE's are ceramic and they break, but they carry a lifetime warranty. I have had to replace parts, but have never had a single problem with warranty replacement. You also need to do a price check as they are nowhere close to $500.00 cheaper than a LBGE. At my dealer right now you can buy a large BGE package for $999 which includes the nest, platesetter, side tables, grate lifter, ash tool, starter cubes and a bag of charcoal.

A quick internet search shows the BKK's within $100 dollars. The cast iron grates on the BKK's are also a turn off vs. the stainless of the BGE. Cast iron is way over rated for searing and heat retention IMO, and is a pain in the ass to care for and keep from rusting, especially when cooking at high temps that can burn all the seasoning off. They also raise hell with the bottom of well seasoned cast iron pans.

When it comes right down to it, cook on what you like and what you can afford. I have beat 20 guys using only my small and mini egg, and lost to guys cooking on Weber kettles and WSM's. If you can cook well on it then just roll with it.
