how easy would it be to rechamber 264 to 26 nosler?

Downloaded the SAAMI drawings and it looks like the 26 Nosler reamer would clean up the 264 chamber and belt without setting back the barrel. Length is the same and the bore is obviously identical, so leade would be the only variable that would be easily accounted for by any decent gunsmith.

Looks like an easy upgrade. As long as you can afford the price of new brass...

I'm sure the barrel could be set back a thread or two if needed to clean up, I haven't compared the drawings. But, I think what a lot of folks are going to run into doing this is that the mag boxes for the classic belted mag cartridges may not feed the new fat ones real smoothly. I'll admit I haven't played with one but as I understand it the mag boxes for the Rem/Win Short & Fat and the Ultra Mags have windows cut in them to help feeding. I'm not sure if the rails are different. Perhaps they will feed OK or the fix is as easy as a windowed mag box, but I wanted to bring up the point as another thing to consider when choosing the doner/base action to build on. I'm interested in building a 26 Nosler or maybe a 7 LRM and have picked up a used 300 Win mag for that eventual purpose.

any halve way decent smith should be able to this with no problem. If re-chamber is what you want then you should go with the 6.5 STW

6.5 STW is a full length magnum round. The .264 WM is a std. length magnum round. I'm not sure about the .264 M-70 box mag length.

I know the std. magnum 700's have a full length magnum box mag of 3.6", so the STW should work in a 700. A RUM mag box for the 700 costs around $10. The factory follower should be OK.

Also seems the 26 Nosler would fit in a Model 70 action set up currently for one of the WSMs? Or am I looking at that wrong?
