Build was on Ruger hawkeye SS action that was blueprinted by Whidden gun works. A Bartlein barrel in #2 contour finished at 20" was used, pillar bedded in a mcmillan stock and NECG sights added. Trigger was re worked to 3.5 lbs. Action, barrel and stock was bought on the campfire.

Looking for dies and brass now but will have to wait to shoot it as I'm headed back to Israel for work.
I'll post the results when I get back.

Tom, I'll have it sent to you for RD? No brass or dies as of yet. I need a good scope too, thinking of a NF 2x10.

I have a 223 in a fast twist and a 308 in the works that will be the same as this one.

Never was a fan of a #2 contour, but done short, changes things, as does those nice irons, WELL executed hunting rifle, on a no frills against all Murphy's Laws odds Ruger action/scope rings...about as bullet proof reliable as you can get.

If ONLY Sako made the old L-579s still, and in SS wink

Look fwd to range and field reports. Congrats on the new stick!

If you can't find brass when you get home let me know. I can send you some once fired stuff to get you going. I like that setup.

I like a #2 contour on a rig like that, have a few. Bet she does fine. Find some H4350 and get to work.

I'll be back home late August, going to put a leupold MRT or night force 2x10 on it. I'll keep the group informed on it's performance.

Will be looking forward to your safe return and update. Any idea what it weighs?

Thanks again for your service.

Well done. The 260 is a great round. If I didn't have a 6.8 I might have to build a 260 for my little boy when he's ready for the woods.

I don't have a guess, but I'll weigh it when I get back and let you know.

Update on my 260 Rem.
Planted a 2.5-8 Leupold Vx3 on the little gun and took it to the range for its break in/ sight in prior to hunting season. After hearing how well Federal fusion ammo was working for a lot of shooters and hunters, I bought 8 boxes of the 120 gr. stuff. First I cleaned the chamber and then put a couple patches through the bore to ensure it was clean. I moved a target to 25 yds to get on paper and then moved the target to the 100 yd line(longest we have here). First couple to get where I wanted, 2" high, and then went for a groups.
All were sub MOA and I went on to another rifle to let the barrel cool down. Last 5 shot group through the 260 went into a tiny bughole. Needless to say I am well pleased with the gun even though it's a little heavy at 8.5 lbs. It's now ready for deer and pig season. The rifle was built by Burke at Whidden gunworks in Nashville Ga.

Five in one hole is fantastic shooting - esp factory ammo!

Like to see the finished scoped rig when you get a chance if you care to post. Should be a good hunting season!

I've read good reports about how accurate the federal fusion ammo was, now I have some proof that it's not just internet talk.
I have it's 308 twin coming in next week , but it sports a lilja 1-11 twist in factory contour. I'll post pics and a range report soon.
Best,
Rgr-x
