I just bought one yesterday from galyans. I wouldn't have paid $1100 for it but at $499 I think they are a steal. Cheapest I found them on the web was $874 and all the local shops are selling them right at a grand. I haven't had a chance to shoot mine yet but I'm pretty impressed with it out of the box. The stock is an aluminum bedded fiberglass, kevlar, carbon fiber composit job from mcmillan and has a very nice black webbing. The barrel is a free floated match grade walther lothar and the trigger is a match grade fully adjustable shillen. The action is the smoothest mauser type action I've ever handled and the detachable magazine works great. It also looks like a regular floor plate when it's installed. The action was a joint effort between beretta and dakota arms similar the dakota 97 and machined from a solid block of steel. Given that the price is right in there with the standard Rem/Win/ Ruger, I don't think you can go wrong, and I know they won't last long at that price. The guy behind the counter told me they were going to run them in the upcoming mailer but he thought they would probably be gone unless he got another shipment. The store I was in also had a .280 that I almost bought. Good shooting, Weagle

mine is also a .338
How can you wait with a price like that? Heck buy one or more, play with them, and then sell them for more than you bought them for in a year. Just the stock, trigger and barrel are worth more than the asking price by a loooooooooong shot.
Is it Friday yet?

weagle

Thanks for the information. I'm going for it, especially
if it has that mic stock. I not all that enthralled with
BC.

I have a M70 SG now in 264 with Leupold QD rings
and mounts. Will these fit to the Beretta?

I got a .338 there a couple weeks ago.

Has anyone else tried to load without removing the magazine? The manual says you can, but the ejector is stopping me from getting the cartridge far enough back for the belt to go through its clearance cuts.

John

John, Sounds like you've had a chance to shoot yours. How did it feed and shoot?

I haven't even loaded mine yet as i plan to use handloads and don't have any ammo made up yet. Also the baretta manual says you can feed a round directly into the chamber without feeding it from the clip. This is an unusual suggestion for a 98 mauser style action. It doesn't even mention squeezing in on the extractor to help it jump over the cartridge rim.

I'm not sure about the bases you mentioned but I did read somewhere that leupold makes a weaver style base that will fit it

Good shooting, Weagle

I have loaded mine several times, with empty cases and dummy cartridges. I haven't shot it yet.

You may have read a post from me on another forum about bases. The Talley Dakota 76/Mato bases will work. So will the Leupold QRW/PRW Weaver-style system, using the bases made for the pre-'64 Model 70 Express, this according to a Beretta technical circular a friend of mine got.

Supposedly one guy at a particular Galyan's store bought seven of these.

JF, Thanks for the info on the bases. I'd assume any pre 64 model 70 express base would fit if the leupold will.

Also have you taken your stock off. Mine fits so tight I can't budge it. Maybe when I shoot it some it will jar it loose a little. I'd like to give the action and trigger a real thorough cleaning as well as lighten up the trigger a little. My trigger breaks very clean, but it is every bit of the 4 pounds it is said to be set from the factory.

sluggo, I had my choice yesterday of .270, .280,30.06 and 338 win. I'm sort of kicking myself now that I did not buy the .280 also.

SU35, I can't find a verification on whether the stock is a mcmillan but It looks like one and feels great. Even if you hate it you can sell it and make some cash. I just called back and bought another one in .280

Good shooting, Weagle

If the stock has an aluminum bedding block in it, it is not a McMillan. Mcmillan does not use graphite or Kevlar either. It is most likely an HS precision or a Brown copy of the HS.

The rifle should be a real shooter if it has a Walther barrel on it. Thet are suoerb barrels.
Celt

I did take the stock off, didn't find anything unusual or extraordinary underneath it.

I don't recall it being particularly tight -- certainly it was easier than anything freshly bedded in Acraglas Gel (done 4 of those lately).

My trigger scaled about 4 1/2 lbs. I'd like to adjust it but don't have instructions -- been too busy/forgetful to call Shilen. Yes, I have turned the wrong screw before on other rifles.

There is a Galyans close by my house. Maybe I should wander over there and see what they have.

I need to buy a new rifle like I need a hole in the head since I am trying to put my money in PacNor's pockets, but if these are that good of a deal maybe I should buy one and salt it away.

Nice talking with you today Bob!

Bill
