I recently acquired a B78 in 7mm Rem mag, factory 28" oct. barrel. I long ago thinned my herd of this caliber. I would be interested in a factory barrel (octagonal) of a different flavor. This rifle is shooter grade, and I'm not looking to invest a small fortune into it, but I like the feel and would like to retain it, just a different caliber. Any thoughts on where I could locate a factory or simular replacement would be appreciated. Thanks Ted

I have an unchambered 30 cal full octagon barrel for the curent production 1885 Winchested high wall made in Japan. I was going to make a wildcat, but I found out that the Browning and Winchester highwalls are assembled with the receiver quite hot making barrel removal dificult for most gunsmiths. If you still want to "dismount" the 7mm barrel and would be interested in 30cal, e-mailme back.

What flavor are you looking for? May be easier to trade it off.
I love mine in 25-06

Well I did just that, found someone wanting a 7mm mag bad enough, I was able to add a couple hundred and pick-up a brand new Win. 1885 in 223 to replace it.

Sounds like a good move to me. Did you get the High wall or the Low wall? I have the Low wall and have been watching for a High wall.

I have the Browning 1885 Low wall in both .22 hornet and .223. They are very nice little rifles. I haven't shot them much yet, but I really like the look and feel of them. I think the were made in .243 and .260 Rem as well, but these are pretty rare.
The High walls are good too. I guess I just like the simplicity and elegance of the falling block design.

I got the High wall, they didn't have any low walls. Their selection left me with a choice of 223, 22-250, 7mm WSM, or 300 WSM. The 223 being the only caliber I didn't already own in either a bolt or single shot, although I did think long and hard on the 22-250. My Mossberg 800 in 22-250 is a tack driver and not ready for the retirement home yet.
