My friend brought his Savage 99 over today. I tried to run down the year, make and other details so I could help him find a rear sight for his rifle. The serial number is 425821 and it has a number 3 on the lever boss. No mistake on the 3 as it is not a "B". The 24" barrel has Utica, NY on it and the Savage Model 99 is on the top. It is a checkered scnabel stock, rotory magazine and has a cartridge counter. My friend wants to put a rear sight back on the gun and because there is a recent drill and tap with scope on it I can't tell if it had a tang sight once upon a time If any one knows for sure what year it was made and whether it is a E, EG, R or which ever I would appreciate your help. Thanks Forks.

Made in 1945 probably, possibly 1944. Model 99EG almost surely. Here's my 1945 99EG hunting rat, about 4000 higher than that serial number.

I would not have guessed the rifle was that old as I had thought it was probably made in 1950-51. I want to thank you again and tell you that I really appreciate your kind response, Forks.

The factory sight would have been a semi buckhorn. Drop me a PM if you want to buy one.

I will tell my friend Dan that it most probably is a semi buckhorn and that you might sell him one. He's trying to find one locally. He will want to know what it costs.
You said to send you a PM and I don't know what that means. Is this messsage a PM?
