I took my son to the range the other day to do some shooting with his .22. It's a marlin youth model single shot, that has had maybe 1000 rounds fired thru it. He shot around 150 thru it that day, of 3 different types ammo. Had one misfire using CCI subsonic ammo. Anyone have much experience with this ammo. It's the frist time has ever failed to fire. Is this a common problem with rimfire ammo?

I've had a number of misfires with CCI CB caps in an old Stevens Crackshot 26-1/2, no misfires with the CCI shotshells. Furthermore, I can take the misfired shells and run them through the single-six and they will fire- every time. I think the CB caps require a stronger strike from the pin than the shotshells do, for whatever reason, and the old Stevens sloppy rolling block action is just not up to it.

A clean chamber,can do wonders....................

It's uncommon as long as the gun's up to par, ( and with a clean chamber, as already pointed out). Years ago an old timer told me; if one fails to fire just rotate it so the firing pin will hit a different spot on the rim and that will usually do the trick. He was right... About 10 years ago I had a promotional box of 50 that I picked up real cheap. Had a few misfires. Rotated them and they fired. Broke some down and found a couple that weren't primed all the way around on the inside of the rim. That explained the rotation thing to me.
Live & learn I guess..
