There is a spacer located between the tang and stock on this rifle. It fits loosely and can actually fall out when you remove the action from the stock. This "spacer" doesn't seem to be depicted on the parts diagram. What is this part called, and is it necessary? I sent a gun in the McMillian to fit a stock, and they removed this spacer. Wondering if it is needed to help support/fit the rear of the action to the stock.

I know what you're talking about, a thin white piece of plastic.....good question, unfortunately I can't give you an answer. Hopefully someone a little more knowledgeable will be along shortly.

IMHO, it's not necessary. Have you called Browning with this question?

Its actually a thin metal piece that loosely fits over the tang/trigger group but. Seems kind of flimsy the way it fits, just wondering if its necessary.

The part is shown on the parts diagram for the A-bolt shotgun if you download that manual. I have a copy just to remind myself which is the right way up for that shim whem I'm reassembling my rifle.

I don't know whether it's strictly necessary, but Browning went to the trouble of including it and my rifle shoots really well, so I don't mess with what isn't broken. But if Mcmillan removed yours, I'd shoot your rifle and see how it performs before worrying further.

I must be blind because I don't see the part on the diagram. I'll call them and see if they know the part I'm talking about.

Download the copy from under 'Historic Manuals' on the browning website, rather than 'Current Manuals'. They call it a stock washer in the parts list.
