Purchased a Tikka Compact in 7mm-08 for the wife to use this Fall. Scoped it up yesterday and got it to the range today.
Nice small, handy rifle. This if the first Tikka I have ever shot, let alone owned. Nice little rifle for the money.
After boresighting and adjusting at 25 yards for the first 5 shots, # 6 and 7 were pretty much on top of each other at 100.
Ended up easily hitting steel at 300 yards right afterwards.
All-in-all, a nice little rifle. Perhaps a little too light as it snaps pretty decently and hit the wife a bit harder than she would have liked. Tomorrw I need to hunt up some lighter ammo to try and ease the recoil for her. This might finally force me to set up and start reloading. Any suggestions for a reduced recoil load?
This is going to be for a cow elk this fall, but ultimately be an all-around rifle.

Put a Limbsaver pad on it. Probably won't need to mess with the reduced loads.
Those who must raise their voice to get their point across are generally not intelligent enough to do so in any other way.

+1 on the Limbsaver pad. Easy, cheap mod that makes a difference. Enjoy that Tikka!

I got my Daughter Sandi the same rifle as you did for your wife. 7mm-08. She likes a 13 inch LOP so the stock being 12 1/2 I put on a Limbsaver 1/2 inch slip on pad for 13 inches. Now, between us we have 5 Tikkas. She normally shoots a Tikka 7mm mag but this little compact is the most accurate of all our Tikkas. It doesn't care what shell you put in it, it just keeps putting them through the same hole. She just used it to harvest a Buck at 258 yards and it was moving. She prefers the Hornaday 139 grain GMX. Also shot the 120 Barnes and there was hardly any recoil at all. Great little rifle and now her favorite.
