You may be confusing a VX 6 with 6x. The VX6 is top of the line from Leupold and a 6x scope is merely the power magnification. Both are very popular though. Not even close to top of the line. Look at the Mark series, especially the Mark 8 http://www.leupold.com/tactical/scopes/mark-8-riflescopes/mark-8-3-5-25x56mm-m5b2-front-focal/3-5 times the money of the VX6

Tactical vs hunting. VX6 is Leupy's top of the heap hunting scope.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

Generally any retailer who carries Leupold products has to agree to sell at MSRP. I've never seen any discounts on a current production Leupold product. Some that have been discontinued yes.
Some retailers may offer free shipping, I get CC points for anything I buy at Cabelas with my card. Sometimes Cabelas sends me a $25-$50 or even a $75 off coupon good for anything in the store or catalog. I once used $200 worth of points I'd accumulated along with a $75 off Coupon combined with free shipping to buy a Leupold. But it was priced at MSRP.
I've also seen some retailers offer a cheap pair of binoculars, or maybe mounts thrown in free with a Leupold purchase. But once again, the scope was always the same price as anyone else. This may hold true for Leupold 'dealers', but not for everyone that sells Leupold products. I've order 2 from Okefenokee Outdoors, no issues. Prior to ordering the first, I called Leupold to ask about them first. Leupold indicated that while they were not a 'dealer', I should be able to shop there with confidence.
Don't speculate when you don't know, and don't second guess when you do.

Cove Creek Outfitters in Bedford PA has some great prices as well. They are a full retail shop so you can go checkout the item before you layout the cash if you are within driving distance.
