Well everyone is apparently out. We have 20 pieces of brass for my sons gun. Gun is used at night so they wont last long. Any one make it from 204 Ruger. I have some on hand. I was thinking run it through the seater with the guts removed to set the shoulder then through the F/L die. Been busy haven't had time to get in front of the press. I have an outside neck turner but no inside reamer for 17cal. Shouldn't be too much of a stretch since both are based off of the 222 Rem Mag. I am set up to anneal and have imperial wax on hand. Just thinking out loud, seeing if anyone has gone down this road before I crush perfectly good brass.

Thanks Mart. Premium brass will be a last resort. This gun gets hunted at night and we, or he as in my son, looses a bunch. I guess I should have been more clear, looking for Rem or Win. A forum member just hooked me up with some once fired. Still going to try making it from 204.

No problem. You can make it from 223 but it comes out a touch short. Not enough to worry about. Never tried it from 204 but it should work fine.

I figured with all the 17Rem whores on this board some one has made it from something LOL. I have access to a bunch of Fed 223 but I know it comes up short, and have not messed with it. I need to get in front of the press and tinker a bit.

Haven't done it myself but several guys over on Saubier make it from 204. My friend down in NV made some using the same method you described. He only made a dozen or so just to see if it works. It does.

Blueprinted: I own and shoot 3 different Varmint Rifles in caliber 17 Remington! I prefer to think of myself as a 17 Remington enthusiast - NOT a "17Rem whore" (snc!) like you infer! No one pays me to shoot my 17 Remingtons - I do it for long proven performance type reasons. Long live the 17 Remington. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Whore,,, Whorder,,, what's the difference? I'm sure I'm guilty of one or the other when it comes to the 17Rem.

While I am a 17 Remington enthusiast, I guess because I used to get paid to do coyote control work with my 17 Remington, I would have to be classified as a 17 Remington whore. Pity my poor parents, they had such great hopes for me.

I have made some from WCC Mil 223 cases but it is a bit of a pain due to the necessary inside neck reaming, they do work fine in my Contender carbine.-Muddy

Well everyone is apparently out. We have 20 pieces of brass for my sons gun. Gun is used at night so they wont last long. Any one make it from 204 Ruger. I expect you may make some fine brass using 204 Ruger brass. Do a search over On Saubier.com I Expect you will find a very extensive explanation for the forming process. Pay special attention to post by SilverFox, a well seasoned 17 rem guy over there who has been using the 204 Ruger brass. Note powder charges will require adjustment due to less case capacity with the thicker wall 204 Ruger brass. I expect the 223 brass will come up short and would shy away from that rout personally. Apparently the outfit below has no qualms with supplying brass formed from the 223 brass. see link below (copy and paste to your browser) for your consideration. http://www.highplainsbrass.com/17-Remington-Brass-p/17-remcase.htm
