Well my kid pulled it off. He finally scored on a PA whitetail buck. 1st Buck 1st bow kill. About a 90 inch 8pt on public ground. Saw the deer once, it busted him once. Conditions were perfect Monday, left him play hooky. 12 ring shot at 10 yards. Deer went 75 yards or so and piled up. He had the deer in range for several minutes before he got a shot. I heard the deer crash, had my phone in hand when it rang. Waiting 30 minutes before I came down out of my stand to recover, not real sure who that was harder on. Deer was down a full hour before we started trailing. Muzzy 4 blade is nasty, followed the blood at a normal walking pace.
He is an honor role student, wrestles almost year round, hits the gym 4-5 times a week plus practice. Shoots every chance he gets, he has worked harder to get this deer than any 2 guys I know. Last few seasons have been slow and full of twists. Most kids his age, just turned 16 in May, would have hung it up. Lost a nice one last year, plus public ground BS. All that and just not seeing game. He hung in there. Had to share. Gotta figure out how to post pics.

Congratulations to him! He sounds like a good one. This is a good example of some of the great life lessons to be learned while hunting live game.

This deer would have been a stud in 2 more years. Wouldn't have lasted through rifle season.

Yep he has 2. Deer have been so few and far between, he doesn't seem interested in filling tags. He has been going this week just to sit in the stand. I think he wants to be there if I get a shot. Best Bow season I have had for 10 years. Last year I saw exactly 2 from the stand. 3-4 stands a week. Seemed pretty weird leaving him sleep when I went out yesterday morning. He is the best hunting buddy I ever had.

Congrats to both of you. I grew hunting with my dad and grandpa, and my son has done the same. My dad was always my best friend, my son has said the same of me. I feel grateful and humbled by that. We are new bow hunters and hunt public ground also. My son and I tagged out with an archery buck and doe each last year and so far this year we have both killed a couple of small bucks with our bows. We have doe tags left and hit the Ozark timber every chance we get. It is an absolutely fantastic experience isn't it? Again, congrats to both of you!
