It will all auto update.

You run it as it determines you need it too.
Very simple and user friendly.

If u have a serious issue make sure u have a operating AV that is updated.
Do a scan with it.

Go to Norton or microsoft as they both have downloadable free malicious software removal tools.
Download and run them.

Go to Microsoft downloads page or all programs from start menu and run your software update.
Make sure that it is set to update automatically.
Download all of the updates if they recommend some.

Run a defragger, IOBITS is what l use.

That will fix most people issues.

For a software firewall I've used the free Zone Alarm forever. Never caused a problem, I don't recall having to do any setup but that would've been years ago. Now tuning it to get the most out of it is another story.

Liked it so much I bought the anti-virus after McAfee became a bloated suite. Besides it was on sale with a free registry cleaner. Hasn't annoyed me yet, stays out of the way. Well there is one thing. Mine wants to do a daily update at 11 PM and I can't find a way to reset it, even perusing registry.

Be careful with that hammer, Paul. It's too pretty to be smacking computers with. Might get scratched!

FWIW I went on a site listed it was for service for Microsoft PCs It was called IYOGI, It's not a free sight but I was so seriously loaded with malware I had trouble letting them into my computer to do the work. Took over 2 hours to have them kill everything that need done. Cost me $150 and one year service 24/7, and turned out I didn't the safety hardware and that was another $50. BUT I havent had any pop ups and it was so bad it was driving me crazy. Seriously bad, and was getting worse as I was on the computer.

Even though I don't have any computer problems, because of you guys talking about it, I yesterday downloaded & installed CCleaner. My computer ran fine, & I shut it down last night before bed. When I started it this morning, it kept bluescreening, and would not start right. Once I went into Safe Mode, and restored it to a pre-CCleaner restore point, it was fine.

Nah, five years strong on a MBP. No widgets, no gimmicks. I did just swap out the HDD for a SSD and the improvement was quite noticeable. Other than that, no porn could kill or even stutter it.

My computer has been in the shop for 3 days. The above not only didn't help I think it was worse. STAY AWAY FROM IYOGI

If your computer gets bad then the solution is to:

1) Buy a USB drive and backup your hard drive to it.
2) Format your original hard drive.
3) Re-install your operating system.
3) Re-install your applications.
4) Copy your data files from the backup drive as needed.

Should cost less than $100 for your backup USB drive.

Well be that as it may, it doesn't bother my Linux machines.

Its funny...
I see all this knocking of Windows...but l have never had an issue.

However l am proactive with it. I liken it to owning a car.
Don't change the oil or grease it, etc. it fails.

I make sure that windows update is set to auto.

Windows firewall is enabled. (I also have a router)

l always have a functioning up to date Anti virus program set to auto update.

Always set your vital programs to auto update.

A system utility program

Anti malware program.

I run them (scans) usually once a week, takes a few minutes is all.

Thats it and no issues.

Not really all that hard huh?

BTW all my stuff is freeware from iobit in case you want to check it out.
Except my AV is from Avast

Updating and resubscribing is where most systems get screwed its a must do. But its so simple and painless...

Strange thing with my optical mouse and monitor. The cursor intermittently keeps flashing with a circular "wheel" appearing in place of the arrow cursor, as if something is trying to upload to the monitor.

The monitor is eight years old and each morning lately it has taken some time to come on. The screen is black but it keeps flashing a very low lighted effort to come on. Finally I can put in my password and get my desktop.

I have changed batteries in my optical mouse which did not cure anything and then used another optical mouse, fresh batteries, with the same results.

Would this indicate the monitor should be replaced??

Thanks.

L.W.

It would indicate malware. I hate to say this but the Geek squad actually fixed my computer. But I'd get a new mouse first.

Have you ever updated your drivers?

Go here download this program and your driver issues are solved.

http://www.iobit.com/driver-booster.php

Is your AV working? Has it been updated?

If drivers do not solve it then I would run Nortons Erasor free malware scan, then Microsofts Malicious software removal tool.

If you have malware then this will help....

http://www.iobit.com/malware-fighter.php run this after the other two do a deep scan with it.

Hope this helps
