I am back to work, but since I got laid off, I turned cheap. Never used a coupon til this summer, just watched sales. I ditched all fast food for a month tomorrow, and it really is helping my stomach issues. None of my friends will go halves on beef, so I watch sales at the local butcher and buy a bunch at a time.
One thing I cant figure out though. Im hooked in iced tea. Green tea to be exact. I just buy the local brand Turkey Hill. Costs me anywhere from 2.50 to 2.99/gal. Unless they got 2 for 4, but that doesnt happen often. I go through a gal to 2 gal a day. I cant handle drinking water all the time. So thats out.
Any way to make green tea by the gallon cheaper that would be more natural?

A glass, gallon container, some green tea tea-bags, and some sun?

Green tea bags aint really cheap. I looked for bulk, but it still aint as cheap as buying what I am now. One bulk place had it cheap, but it had hibiscus and like 3 other teas in it. Maybe ill try it, cant hurt I guess.

congrats on your newfound cheapness. Amazing how when you start to pay attention to the small expenses how the money starts to pile up for you.

Great thing about being cheep is getting the kids into it..
Ours are diving deep into the bargin barrels and hitting the clearance racks first thing when they go into stores. They instantly know where the darkest corner of the grocery store is, and where to find the last chance rack.
It's a skill that will serve them well, especially in kolluge.
I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...

Bought some steaks at Sam's today. Fillets have gone through the roof! Chips & Candy, too.

Pick your own. We mix goldenrod that we harvest locally and mix with mint we grow in our yard. You can buy both over the net(if you can't find it wild), like many other teas, in bulk.
If you do a little research on golden rod you'll find it to be at least as good if not better in anti oxidant content as green or white tea and if you pick it, it's free. During the revolution it was referred to as liberty tea since it was used as a replacement for British tea that was boycotted because of the "tax issues".

Anything you can do yourself will save money. America lives on processed and prepackaged food and it costs us billions, both in outlay at the store and also in medical bills. The large majority of processed foods are full of sugar which is a killer.

Pinto beans should have palace on everyone's menu. My favorite bean. I am also partial to Purple hull peas and Crowder peas. I raise the peas but buy the beans. Pinto beans try to rot here in our humidity. All that I have tried to raise, the beans touch the ground and thus rot. Do the make a variety that grows tall with the beans up off the ground? miles
Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.

If you have a Chinese herb shop, or a Chinatown in a nearby city, they usually have the best prices on green tea in bulk. I love that stuff too.
I scoop it out of a barrel and pay about $4 a pound. That's a lot of tea. You can then either get your own tea bags or get the metal infusers you reuse. Metal infusers are the cheaper way to go, but sometimes the smaller pieces of tea get out. I don't mind that.
Only downside is I have to drive into Chinatown once every four or five months. But it ain't too far from work for me

BeanMan, having farmed them some in the past, myself, I agree. Though I've mostly switched to Anasazi for overall digestibility, and get them from Adobe Milling, beans should be constant. Weight loss? 2 bites beans for each of anything else. Economy & health? Absolutely. Good? the main reason to eat them. Americans seem to have forgotten what was once a staple.

However, you might end up spending more for the plastic than it costs to just buy them. Many stores sell beans in 25 or 50lb bags for a fraction of the 1 lb bags.
