We were in antelope unit 102 for the next three days on our first western hunt and will likely stay till the end of the week to enjoy some better weather.
Next year we hope to come in for a cow elk hunt and we were told by a gentleman at the local meat processor that he has been hunting 34 for quite some time.
Thought we would try to spend some time there and see if we can glass some elk. Heck, it actually has cow tags available over the counter. Don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves but just maybe we were thinking of going in with a NR cow tag. Main goal is to familiarize ourselves with the area to do a DIY hunt next year.
Can anyone give me an idea of what land is accessible to public. Any hints or tips on what general area to concentrate on?
How does one go about finding landowners who will let you hunt for a trespass fee?
Figure doing this research this year would help next year.

You could contact the Wyoming Game and Fish Regional office in Sheridan for that area for assistance.
Sheridan Regional Office & Visitor Center 700 Valley View Drive Sheridan, WY 82801 (307) 672-7418
A huntinggpsmaps.com map download or sd card for your gps would show landowner information as well as public land.

Wyoming oounty assessors maintain a GIS based mapserver that shows landowner information, public and private, with contact information for private lands. You can also overlay hunt areas, topo maps, and aerial photos. Here's Johnson county http://mapserver.johnsoncountywyoming.org/map

34 can be tricky. Usually after much snow the elk move down off the mountain to private land. I would for sure check with game and fish and see what the landowners allow and if they charge.

The area 34 Cow /calf tags are for "OFF" national forest use, so they are limited in public hunting to State land trust and blm land. With work and money you may be able to find a ranch to allow you to hunt. I know people that hunt down there and access is limited and being an outsider ,they are not afraid to offend you with the size of trespass fees...... How is your antelope hunt going in this awesome weather. I hate hunting goats in snow.....LOL
