They are not chasing around here. We aren't seeing any deer moving where we are hunting. I've talked to guys that have seen lots of does and no bucks yet.

Rooster - where are you? We are north of Deer River and they are going at it. In between Moorhead and DL. It's finally starting to snow today so that should help but I can't hunt now until Friday. I have family by Deer River. My aunt and uncle have a place on the Mississippi

For a brief one-hour window on the opener, we had some serious rutting activity in the far NE corner of the state. These two died within 1/2 hour of one another - 1/4 mile apart. Neither of them mine (two members of our crew) but got in on the dragging action. All was quiet after that.

Is it worth my time to drive to North Central St. Louis Co on Thursday or not. I've got a 9 hour drive and enroute I'll run into areas that just got 3' of snow. Wish I lived closer. I haven't made it since 2011 due to kids and such.

I don't know if any of the roads are really still bad. We drove from the Crosslake area to the cities during the storm Monday and our normal 2 hour 45 minute drive took a shade under five hours, but it was doable.
We saw a lot of deer, but are a few hours west of there.

I'm coming from the eastern U.P. They have 3' in areas of the WUP, Iron River WI has over 2' with more coming. Making me nervous.

Our foot of snow melted a bit but is is in the teens. I don't see anything moving but a small buck got hit on the highway 48. I almost stopped. Roads are cleared now. I might sit in the house today 20 mph winds suck bad.

I hunt a little north of Fosston and the bucks are chasing. We ended up getting two ok 8 pointers on the first weekend so far. Skane those are some nice bucks. Goalie, my parents and most my family live in Perham. Going back up tonight so maybe this weekend I'll run into something to shot. Good luck to the rest of you going out this weekend.

Camp is where you make it.

I beat up a 3 pt buck this afternoon. It was 20 mph winds and blowing snow and I was not feeling fussy. The 35 Whelen roared and the buck went down. whelennut

But after last winter, I was unsure. Got a report from a camp up there two days ago. They usually do good. They called it "brutal" this year. I was supposed to leave yesterday morning, but got 30" of snow. My season is over before it started. Spent 4 1/2 hours digging out yesterday. Probably another 3-4 today. Not funny anymore. It's getting old.

Near Cotton right now, pretty bleak. Saw one doe this morning. Few nice tracks around, but it takes a lot of those to make a meal ;-)

Didn't bother to go down to our old camp in far North Central....we've hunted it for 50+ years and partners claim deer are very scarce and the wolves seem to have moved on. They hunted first four days and saw no deer and heard only one shot.

Not many pics in here...did it not go well? I'll post some up this weekend, phone isn't sending pics to my e-mail. I ended up tagging a decent 4x4 buck, probably 3 1/2 years old this past Sunday near Cotton. One of two deer taken in camp during the first nine days.
