I switched from Lyman to Dillon, and was pleasantly surprised at the noise reduction.

The one in the garage. Can't hear it at all. Yep. I have a Thumler's UV-10, and it's LOUD. I usually leave the shop while I have it running. I recently bought a SS pins/wet setup, and though it is more involved in the post-tumbling operations, it is much quieter and the results much better. The only loud noise associated with that system is the Air Compressor, but it runs for a short while and intermittently while I dry the insides of the cases. And I can stand to stay in the room with it.

I am giving the SS pins a try, too. They work great, but I am wondering about the following:
Do you leave the pins in the water between cleaning sessions?
Will stainless eventually rust if you leave them in the water?
Will the tumbler eventually get sour and start stinking?

I drain mine but don't worry about letting it dry.

The instruction booklet that came with my setup said you don't have to worry about that, and I have seen n o evidence to the contrary.

I keep my tumbler in the garage, that way it's easy to dump the brass in after returning from the range. I have added a timer to the power cord, that way if I forget it turns itself off after whatever time I set.

One more thing about the pins. Get the .047" ones. You won't have issues with two pins jamming together in the primer pocket like with the .041" ones.

My Lyman Turbo 3200 in the workshop 100 feet from the house works real quietly. It's so quiet that I have to leave myself a note to shut it off in a couple hours.

I ended up buying a Cabelas that was on special as a back up one, for the times my Midway one needed some more 'repair'....
after I plugged it in, I was shocked on how quiet that baby is...
especially compared to the Midway one I had...
Midway eventually replaced it with an RCBS Tumbler.. which I have used ONE time.. the time to test it out...
Doesn't compare to the Cabelas house brand one.. whoever makes it for them, did a darn good job...
full of walnut media, I can barely even hear it humming away on the counter....but then I always have a radio playing 24/7 in the garage...

The reason I asked is I live in a small apartment- no garage, no basement, which is the reason I haven't fired up my old 80's vintage tumbler in years. My handloads shoot just as well with tarnished brass as they do with bright shiny clean brass, well, you know...

The rotary ones are quieter than the viberaters Yes they are. I have two Thumlers, one is a UV-10 and the other is a Model B hi-speed Rotary. There is quite a bit of difference in noise. The UV-10 buzzes like hell, the Model B just kinda swishes.
