Thinking about building one with a bartlain barrel I have laying around. I am considering a 20 inch tube for hunting box stands around our place in mississippi. How much will I be leaving on the table by cutting it short?

Not a whole lott. I have one in 22" and one in 23". I built my Grandson a 6X47 Lapua with a 21" barrel. If the work is quality and the load work is done right, the animals won't know how long the barrel is then.

OP, just had mine chopped from 22.5 to 20, no crony data yet, but Butch is right. Meter might register 40-60 fps less than say a 22-23"

Mine is 23" and every time I look at it I wish it was 19".
Handy/Dandy is what I like.

Personally how I hunt, a 19-21 is a sweet spot if it balances and steadies well, and is accurate.
Bob Swagger has a 16.5" and dumped a large WT deer at 483 yds using 136.... Blast is more my concern than any speed loss and in a 47 blast is not a bid deal.
