Not the biggest but ill take it! Noticed the deer were acting like previous years where we had a vague early rut and a distinct 2nd, so I set up on the edge of a 7 yr old clearcut. He slipped by nose to the ground. Little 87 gr VLD did the trick....

Thanks. Dad only saw one doe also. Didnt hear back from my cousin, dad just drove up to his camp to find out. I know one thing, these deer are ruttin, and the bear hunters musta seens a few big ones around dads stand, cause there musta been 20 guys on that ridge. Im hoping the forecast for ice send most of the guys home tomorrow. Wont take but a day for the deer to return to normal patterns. I went back out this afternoon and got 3 of my old spots scouted just incase their hunts dont go as planned. Im pretty sure I can put dad or cousin on one til the end of the week. Fingers crossed!
Good luck to you all, hope yous get a big one!

Doc No, I used a 243 with 87gr VLD's. Thanks guys, appreciate it! Really thought we would have more hangin by now but the weather crapped on us good. The majority of hunters left yesterday, since they were calling for ice. It started snowing and the deer started moving. Unfortunately that window only lasted about an hour or two and then the ice hit. The deer shut down hard. I did see 2 doe right before dark, laying in laurel. We're being lazy this morning, but temps are around 34 right now and ice is melting. Gonna head back out in a bit and see if we can make it back in. The loģgin roads were wicked slick last night. My old mans getting frustrated, so I hope he sees today, if not im afraid he'll be ready to hang it up for the year and head home.
