I have grandparents, great grandparents, and great, great grandparents buried in the Lutheran side of the cemetery in the small town of Norway just west of Cedar Rapids. My grandparents old farm looks like good pheasant hunting.

There is an indoor range on the edge of CR where I used to shoot pistol every week. They also have an underground 100 yd. range there. There is a new indoor range up in Hiawatha (basically a suburb of CR). There is an outdoor range up by Springville (not too far). There is an outdoor range somewhere up NW of CR. The Ikes have a pistol range over at Vinton (Maybe 35 miles). I am not sure, but they might have a range at CR as well? Maybe the one referred to above?

NO typo earlier. 18k for the place. old farm house in a ag community. I put new vinyl windows in the whole house, and laminate and tile floors throughout. the couple that owned it worked for the elec co-op and had all the wire updated to nomex wire and PEX plumbing lines. knocked down couple of small sheds and bought an Outdoor wood boiler. Have steel in the garage to do roof when the weather is fit. all in all have less than 25K in whole place. Paid for. cost of living is very reasonable;e if willing to do a little fixing and have patience

It's been a long while since I lived there, but CR was a decent place to reside 30 years ago, and I still have friends there that won't ever leave. I found it far more desirable than living in Ames, which I couldn't wait to get out of after high school. I went to U of I in Iowa City for a year prior to moving up to CR (30 miles up the road). Didn't care for IC too much.
I would recommend living outside of town; it gets rural pretty quickly without having a long commute, and your taxes will be cheaper. Lots of good small towns surrounding CR, and there's good hunting and fishing all around the area. I even use to fish the river right in town with good success. The Mississippi River isn't too far a drive either.
