Does anyone have much knowledge of the Sako 591 action? I have a LH model that has been rebarreled to 243 in a varmint configuration. It sits in a McMillan stock. I've learned the M591 is a medium action and the "91" series was replaced by the 75 in the mid to late 70's but that' about all the information I can gather on it. Anyone care to chime in with some information?

I think M591's started about 1992; Model 75's 1997.

OSU, When you get tired of playing with the LH M591, shoot me a PM. I'll "take it off your hands"...

The S491 (short), M591 (medium) and L691 (long) were introduced in '91 ish when A series was dropped.
The 91's were a departure from Sako's previous practice of building actions sized to the cartridges they chamber with different outside dimensions and different bolt diameters. The 91's are simply three different lengths, all other dimensions like the outside dimensions of the receiver and the bolt diameters remained the same. Just like most other firms short and long actions.

I have been shooting a M591 LH 308 Mannlicher Carbine since the early 90's. I was a big fan of "John Wooters" and he used a little Sako Mannlicher in 308 although I do not think it was a M591.
Mine shot great right out of the box and still does to this day. While it has not been abused I have not babied it either and it has taken many whitetails along with an assortment of Exotics.
I too would be interested in your's should you ever decide to part with it.
