I have a very nice Savage 99 pre-war R Model for sale. Chambered in .300 Savage, the rifle has a 24" barrel. Beautiful walnut, nicely figured, with two point checkering and fluted comb.

The pre-war R is the only 99 with the double line carved into the forend tip. A lot of folks think the pre-war R is the classiest and best handling 99 ever made, and I tend to agree. I'm only selling this one because I recently bought one just a little nicer in .303 Savage.


Condition on the gun is very nice. There is some blue wear on the belly of the receiver, but otherwise the gun is super clean. The wood is immaculate, and it has the original savage buttplate. There is a lot of the original case coloring left on the lever. All the serial numbers match on the receiver, buttstock, buttplate, and forend.






There are no extra holes in wood or metal. All finish is original. No tang cracks. No surprises. This is a lovely example of a scarce model.

Speaking from experience, you won't regret that purchase. I prefer my pre war R's over the 50's F's and that is say a lot. Now if you just had a 250 in one. GW

I have a 1951 EG in great shape I got from here on the 'fire 10 years ago, it is a .300 Savage, and I think it is one fine rifle.

But it needs a friend.

The local GS has a takedown in 300 for 750.

It's not in very good shape.

I got to say, this was a GREAT buy... and from a discerning and quality seller. I would have been very tempted had I seen this before it was sold... I'm a total sucker for the pre-war Rs.
