I just picked up a nice 1922 today, numbers match very good blue and wood. The big negative is that the rear sight was replaced with a (get ready) a globe front sight with a round insert,it even kinda works! Can any of the experts tell me the proper rear sight whether peep or regular? It does of course have a dovetail for the rear sight, the serial is 899x if that is needed. My camera is broke or I would have some pics. Thanks for any help!

The dovetail for the rear sight must have been added, on 1922's the rear sight mounted with a single screw - larger than used on a 1904.

Thanks for the info, I thought the dovetail was original because of the few photos I found had it. The front is original and there are two holes at the rear, there is also a hole with a screw in it in front of the dovetail as if the sight for the dovetail had a front screw. This gun must not be too common as I am having a hard time finding photos and info thanks again!

Thanks, Gene. You are correct on the sights. Looking through my photos and info I found a photo of another 1922 in the 10xxx range with a dovetailed sight but no details as to if it was original. I have next to no info on the 1922. Still don't know if they all had the later dished out ejection post.

Anyone else have a 1922 we can get info from?

I've got 3 of them Rick, I'll check the serial numbers and see if they're dished out soon.

Rick, 5661, 8458 and 15152 all dished out the same amount on all three.

My 15152 is not dovetailed for a rear sight, I'd guess the one you saw at 10XXX was an add on.

Thanks! The sales records show 15712 sold 1922-1925 (only 4 in 1925). I don't know what the starting serial was. Probably 1, 100 or 1000. The 23A which was the replacement didn't start selling till 1924 with serial 25,000 (per parts manual).

Still would like to find a very low numbered one to determine if any had the early small ejection port. WesJ had 17xx but he passed away before I could find out the port size.

what was the s/n range on the 1922's? Was the s/n on the back of the rec. or on the side?

2) serial is on the back edge.

No. I have data on serial numbers 17xx, 37xx, 5xxx, 8xxx and 15xxx. I think the serial started at 1000 or lower and went to around 16,000 or 17,000.

So, were there any real changes other than the ejection port cuts? Any bolt or other changes seen from the 19 to the 1922?

I don't know. I don't take them apart. I would think that what ever changes were made to the common parts in the Model 1919 were made to the Model 1922.
