I get 2812fps with Varget and 162gr Amax out of my 7mm-08AI. I had a batch of varget that would run faster but this lot won't without pressure. I'm also at 2.950 on oal running a AI mag. How long of a barrel you running with that velocity

Very doable at only 70k or more psi.

im having Jim Kobe build me a 7-08 AI with a 26" shilen sendero contour tube. Its being throated for 168bergers, what do you fellas think I could expect to see speed wise outta 168s.

nortex, would you be able to give me some specifics on the load? what powder/primer/charge weight? is that loaded to mag length or do you have it set out and measured off the Ogive? The dummy rounds i send are loaded so the 168 is right at the neck shoulder junction for maximum powder. COAL is right around 3.010

What action are you using? Is your magazine longer than 3.010?

For more reference I was getting 2700-2730 with Max loads of H414 from my stock 7-08 Kimber with 22" barrel.
The H414 gave better velocities and groups with the heavies than anything else I tried. The 160 AB did show more pressure than than 162 Amax (over .200" more bearing surface) but I got similar velocities.
It ain't what you don't know that makes you an idiot...it's what you know for certain, that just ain't so...

Very doable at only 70k or more psi. Are your numbers based on using actual pressure equipment ( universal receiver, oehler. ) or just guessing with quick load and no real experience. Not trying to start a fight just want to know if you have real knowledge of the 7-08 AI or are speculating. I find that brass in the 243, 260, 7-08 and 308 will not hold primers after a load of 70 psi.

I found RL 19 to post top velocities but went to varget due to temp sensitivity. With alliant coming out with the new powders to curve the temp problem it might be a 19 sub that gets a 168 to 2800.

Varget is not Reloader 19, and will top out earlier with 140s. I have had a 7mm-08 Ackley, and did not find close to some of the magical velocities from this thread. Then again, I didnt use the load until I see pressure, then back down a grain method. Besides, one doesnt need to have used a particular cartridge to have a damned good idea what it will do for velocity. This isnt the 1950s; plenty of pressure tested data is available to compare cartridges.

Basically, a 7mm-08 AI will do what a 2 longer barreled 7mm-08 will do for velocity, at comparable pressures. If a person is seeing much more with the Ackley, its because theyre loading it hotter.

The question is, if single loading anyway why not go with a 284 and outpace both by a good margin?

3.6" is the standard COAL got the 338 Lapua, I load mine to 3.860" and do not get any more velocity than others tat are loading to 3.6" COAL. Longer loaded length is no guaranty of extra velocity. I am running a 30" barrel on my Lapua.
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

You are probably loading yours to sane pressures. The difference is case capacity is pretty minimal with the different OALs, anyway.
