At the local gun auction, they have a Stevens favorite model 1915. I have one and if it goes cheap may buy this one. But the question is, What is 25 Stevens caliber?

I have never seen a 25 Stevens, and with my other favorite being a 32 RF I dont know if I need another white elephant in the gun rack.

There was at one time a cartridge called the 25-21 Stevens. It's a straight wall rimmed cartridge, longer than the 25-20 you're used to seeing in lever actions.
The 25-21 Stevens is long, long out of production.
Whether the Favorite was chambered in that, I don't know. Seems more likely to me that the 25RF is what would be in a Favorite, as I don't think the Favorite was made to hold much pressure.

The Stevens Favorite was chambered for the .25 rimfire, in fact if I am not mistaken all Favorites were rimfires. Yep, just checked, they were offered in .22, .25, .32 rime fire only.

The new ones by Savage, the 30G and GM are offered in .22 and .22WMR

NYSF,

The .25 Stevens was a useful rimfire cartridge that was discontinued by US ammunition companies when they went back into civilian production after WWII.

My grandfather thought that it was a great "stew meat" cartridge for rabbits, grouse, and squirrels for the camp "pot". He had a long barreled Stevens pistol with a detachable stock that he carried when I was a single digit boy and he was in his middle 70s. As I recall, he used to use Imperial/CIL ammo from Canada, both gold and black boxes and yellow and blue boxes.

A neat rifle and cartridge, but truely useless without an ammo source.

Sincerely,

Bearrr264

Well then I guess I wont be chasing that thing after all. I try and shoot the 32 every now and then, but I dont need more ammo bills generated from chasing obsolete rounds.

The auction does have a couple of winchesters taht may be of interest. I may go and chase stuff that I can resell. But sadly no Savages and only 2 stevens. THe 25 favorite and a shotgun.
