What's a fair price for a M70 30/06,it has a 4 X Balvar scope, not sure what the mount and rings are. The rifle is in good condition. My father inlaw has owned it since the mid 50's and has only run a few boxes of ammo through it. I'd rate it about 90 per cent.

Value would depend if it were a standard weight or a featherweight, pictures would be a real help otherwise it would be an educated guess at best.

If the rifle is a legitimate 90% and hasn't been messed with (no pad or extra holes, original wood and metal finish and front and rear sights) it would bring $800.00 to $1,000.00 where I shop for guns. Check eBay to see what the Balvar's are selling for.

Not enough information. Was it made int he mid-50's or is it earlier? Standard, Featherweight? Super Grade? Any special features? Pictures would REALLY help.

The rifle was bought new in 50's. It's a standard model with no modifications. I told him I thought it was worth around $1000.

Not sure if the butt plate is steel or alum. I won't be visiting for a while so no pics. He was just curious , he's going to give the rifle to his grandson.

If it is a standard model like you said previously, it should have a steel butt plate. Either way, his grandson will likely love the rifle and starting out with a true "rifleman's rifle", is never a bad thing. Sorry we couldn't help with "value", as we just don't have enough information here..

To me, a rifle from my grandfather would be worth a lot more than $1000
