I FINALLY got one, a Ruger #3 in 30-40. Wanted one of those all my life. This one is in very good condition. The steel is perfect and the stocks nearly so. Can't wait to get a scope on her. The LGS happened to have a set of Weaver bases on the rack. Only one problem: I can't get the filler screws out. They must be glued in there cause I can't budge them. I put my soldering iron on them and tapped on them, but nothing. Of course, one can only apply so much torque on a little #6 with no head and just a tiny little slot.

Before I start escalating things, I want to ask you guys if you have any ideas. Lots of experience here. Thanks.

Give them a soak in kroil for a few days, then try again.

OK, thanks. I was hoping someone had a "magic" cure that would give instant gratification, but old-fashioned patience will have to be it.

I don't have Kroil. Will WD-40 work?

Kroil and heat at the same time, will surely get the oil to creep down in there.

Use more heat if necessary.

If you strip the head, get an easy-out thingy that drills it out backward.

I'm gonna get out the propane torch and heat up a punch and put it on the screw.

appreciate the easy-out idea, but man that is a really small easy-out! Do they make them that small? We're talking #6 here, with no head. I'd want to remove the stocks and chuck the barrel in something rigid like a Bridgeport to get that small of a hole through the middle of a screw that tiny. Really hope the Kroil and heat works! eek
