I'm strongly inclined to agree. I've had very consistent accuracy and good velocity with RL-19 in both the 280 Rem and 280 Ackley.

Reloader 22 works for me. 57-58gr.

46.5 grains of RL19 with 140 barnes ttsx gets me a little over 3,000 fps and lots of dead deer.

I've loaded for a bunch of .280s for the last 35 years.
IMR-4831 is my hands-down choice for the lighter bullet weights.
I've always gotten a little better velocity with it than with RL-19.
But, it could be that my lot of RL-19 is a little slow.
Keep your gun-hand ready and your eyes peeled.

You may want to check that load again! Looking at Nosler #7 for the 280 Rem and 140's that load is not in the range of suggested weights for H4350. http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/rifle

Les,
Don't know if it is the 'best' powder for .280, but I load 140 Gr. Barnes TSX bullets ahead of 55.0 gr. of IMR4350, for a MV of 3050 fps. Very accurate load.

H4831 up to @60grs R22 up to @61.5grs R19 up @59grs
Depending on which brand/style bullet you should be able to safely run 3050-3150fps in a 24" bbl with 139/140s and any of those powders.

55gr of Reloader 19 and 140 Accubonds are the ticket in my 280.

57 grains of Re 19 and a 140 grain Partition did quite well in my old Rem 700 Mtn rifle.
55 grains of Re 19 and the 160 Partition also did very well on elk!!

+1 for the H4831sc load. 59 grains works a treat. I couldn't get RL19 to give acceptable accuracy despite all previous recommendations. I guess rifles are finicky at times.
Experience is something you get, just after you needed it.

That would probably depend on the rifle and the bullet. For instance, the Barnes 140 gr. TSX shoots really well in my .280 anywhere between 57 and 59 grs. of Ramshot Hunter. But their 140 gr. LRX bullet has me stumped as to what would shoot 1.5 MOA or better. I've been loading for the .280 since 1987, off and on. With 140 gr. bullets, Anything like IMR/H 4350, Re-19, IMR 4831, Ramshot Hunter or even H4831 can work well. BTW, I consider anything over 57 grs. of Ramshot Hunter or Re-19 too hot with a 140 gr. bullet. E

E FWIW, I've loaded 59grs of R-19 with with 139s and 140s in a Rem 700 .280 for years with nice results.
