My youngest son (9) was on a roll this past week. We made the trek from Colorado to a ranch that a fried of mine owns in Central Texas. We left New Years Eve. The roads were terrible. It took us 15 hours to make the usual 10 hour trip. The ice in Texas was one for the record books, but it was worth it. My youngest son was first up to bat. He bloodied his new Rem 700, 25-06, shooting 100 grain barnes triple shocks. 230 yds Then the next evening killed this 8 pt shooting the same rig. My oldest (12) had a swing and a miss on a big 8, and then smoked this doe with his new custom 7 ultra mag, 140 grain barnes triple shocks. Found this doe feeding on acorns under a big oak. Made a 1000 yd stalk and a bang flop from 250 yds. Was a great trip and well worth the long drive. Toby Joe

Tobyjoe:
That's great. Congratulations to you and your son.
I would like to take my grand-son big game hunting in Colorado, but I have to wait until he's 12. That's a couple of years away. I already have the 25-06 for him to use.
Maybe a Texas exotic hunt?

We were in San Angelo. Close enough to Central Texas.

Been wondering about your exploits there TJ. Great stuff with the kids as usual. Thanks for the great pics. Good looking bunch you have there. Congrats!
Oh yeah....+1 on the ice. Took me 3.5 hours to get from Canadian to Amarillo.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

Sorry, forgot that you have to be perfect in everything that you post on this [bleep] place anymore. Or somebody will call you on it.

Toby I was just pullin your chain. I live in true central Texas about 40 miles west of Waco...and we don't have many like that. There are however some good pockets of deer out and around San Angelo and a few other bordering counties. Looks like a nice ranch with good genetics. Nothing like seeing a youngster hunkered down behind a deer. I always look forward to your pictures, stories and travels whether w/the boys or w/other friends/hunters. Again...just yankin on your chain a little bit. You can sure tell the young'un w/the doe sure wanted it to have horns. GOOD HUNT ALL AROUND. powdr
