At 11:58pm on Dec. 23 the FedEx man beat on my door to tell me my shop was on fire. I called 911 and starting moving vehicles. Loaded up the wife and kids and got away from the house. Thank God for the fire dept. getting here as fast as they did or we would not have a house. My shop is 20 ft from my house with a large propane tank in between. The fire destroyed everything in my shop. Several 4 wheelers, 2 dirt bikes, and every tool that I owned. We just moved here to Colorado back in May, and this is the only shop/storage that I had. So everything that a person would not keep in the house, was in my shop. We were planning on building a new barn/ shop this next spring. I learned a new respect for how devastating a hot fire can be.
Here whats left of my riding lawnmower, one 4 wheeler, and my welder.

Thank God for the FedEx man, very good fire department, and insurance.

Some say stuff is just stuff, but it still hurts to lose it all. Lucky for the house and family being okay.

Best wishes.

Stuff is just stuff. What is important is safe.

Sorry about your mother-in-law................grin

Since everyone is safe all you can do is laugh. Glad everyone is safe, the rest is just stuff, as I'm sure you know.

At least you have the opportunity to rebuild. As the saying goes "its only stuff". Thank goodness no one was hurt.

Wishing you the best in your replacement efforts.

Glad to hear all are safe, and yes it is just 'stuff' but having my shop (32 x 40) flood, I have somewhat of an understanding what you will be going through. I know I should probably do a better job of inventorying and documenting what I have as well as ensure I have the right amount and type of insurance. Godspeed going forward.

Had an extension cord ran to a heat lamp and on a separate plug in had an heated dog water bowl that was in a dog kennel running off the back of my shop. The fire inspector said that they think an extension cord shorted out and started it. I put our aussy dog in the pen at 930 pm and all was ok. I dont know how she got out, but she did. When I opened the door for the FedEx man, she was standing there. The panels are 6ft chain link panels. She had to have crawled over, cuz there was no holes under the fence, and there is not a space big enough for a crawl through.

A real bummer there. One will be remembering needed items for years. Don't close out ones insurance claim with an initial listing.

My house burnt down completely 4 years ago the 8th of this month. I know how you feel. Make sure you get everything you are entitled to from your insurance company. They cancelled me after they paid off. The only good thing that came of it, I had enough money saved and what I got from insurance company I paid cash for house I am in now. Also, I find myself asking did I have so and so before the fire or after, such as a tool or etc. if I can't find something.

Wow Toby,I'm glad y'all weren't injured.
I was in a fire when I was in the Navy and it was terrifying. Unfortunately I had to help with fighting it and burning to death ain't the way to go.
And good for the FedEx driver. You might want to give him a backstrap or two if you see him again.

Glad to hear everyone including doggie is alright. I've resolved that sometime today, I'm going to walk out to my shop and throw away at least 2 extension cords that I know have holes/cuts in the outer sheath.
