I have ordered a Sako A7 SS Roughtech in .308, should be here in a few days. I have read the bases that come with the rifle are not the greatest. Have read some threads saying after switching them out, folks were seeing better accuracy. Not sure one way or the other, buy I ordered a picatinny one piece anyway. Really wondering from current owners about what loads their A7s seem to like the best. Any other info you think may help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

KRM, I bought an A7 in 300 WSM about 6 years ago, can't remember what bases came with it but thinking they were standard Weaver-style. I have Talley LW's on it with zero problems.
Lightweight rifle, feeds uber-smooth in the straight-stack mag, great barrel/trigger/action, you should like your 308.
If you want to replace the black factory shroud order an 85 shroud from Brownells, they should be interchangeable.

Hi KRM, good rifles, I'm on my second. This time a .270 Win. the first was a .308. I've not had any problems with the bases at all! Leupold PRW low rings have worked very well on both rifles. Some guys have had problems with TC Bolt rifles that have a similar set up, but TC does advise buyers to tighten the bases as they are apparently left loose at the factory for whatever reason. The Roughtech is a new model, different stock with adjustable butt spacers and a fluted barrel set at 24 inches for short and long actions. It should serve you well!

Nothing not to like about an A7. I had an original one in .243Win and really liked it. I found a Tikka that I feel really good with and just didn't hunt the A7 so I passed it along to a fellow campfire member. Otherwise I would not have parted with it.

I have owned several of these and found everyone to be MOA shooters, i kinda regret selling a few of them as they were fantastic shooters, i like the idea of the the A7 Roughtech but I suspect another thick wristed B&C stock is used on this rifle and that would be a dealbreaker for me here.......let us know what you think..........good luck.....Hb

Thanks guys for the info. Great stuff. Did some asking and hope to find out this Precision stock is not as thick as my LTR. This will be my "go to" treestand gun. I'm putting a 50mm Diavari on top. I bought a Talley lightweight base (not 20). Can I get away with Med height Maximas?

I have two, one in 25-06 the other is a 243
Outstanding rifles both. 25-06 continually makes ragged holes, the 243 just about touches.

Could you measure the LOP on yours? I read online the Rough Tech have a adjustable LOP with some 5mm spacers.

AMRA, LOP is almost exactly 14 inches on mine. It did come with spacers if you desire them. I got it a couple weeks ago. Read alot about the bases that came with it. Positive and negative. I tried a one piece Talley lightweight and it restricts loading too much for me. Looked weird on the gun as well. (Made scope sit way to high and looked bulky.) So, I used loctite on the original bases and installed Warne Maxima highs with my 2.5-10x50 Diavari and it has been exceptional. I have had no issues and loading/extraction have both been flawless. BTW, this thing is a absolute tack driver for a factory hunting rifle. I love the stock and fluted barrel on the roughtech. Would recommend this to anyone.

I have a a7 243 that I had AI punched. Shot outstanding as both the original 243 and now again as the 243 AI. I like it so much in fact that I ordered a sako classic mcmillan for it.
