California is one of the most diverse and beautiful states in the lower 48. Such a shame the people have let it slide so far.

Good luck to you Scott!

I have had a CA permit. Easy to get in Nor Cal, almost impossible anywhere else in the state.

And...when you get it (and PAY a LOT for it) and read the fine print about where, when, and what you may carry you are better off without it.

Ain't worth it.

Stop by and visit on your way home. I have some ax heads for you.---Spano

Sadly I will be flying home when we leave or you could count on a stop.

After the 9th circus court ruling permits in CA will be a lot easier to get.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this!!

I've lived in San Diego more or less since '98 and love it, despite the drawbacks.

On the topic of San Diego, any great restaurants near the airport? I will be at MCRD next week for my sons graduation. We are staying in billeting on MCRD, so looking for something easy to get to.

Good for you Scott - looks like you are having a fine time in what used to be one of my favorite places. Hope that you and your bride enjoy it a ton.

Also looks like that machiato made your hair really shine.

Guess I'm out of the loop. What is it that the 9nth might do that would be favorable to gunnuts like us?

So far that is the only drawback. I do feel naked, all the time. Since I only came with a carry on bag and a briefcase I did not even bring a firearm. There is a 1911 cocked and locked within reach of my bed but nothing when I walk out the door. I am researching what it takes to get a permit. Things are changing here for the better thanks to the ninth. If I can get a permit I may change my residency to here. I could then get my non resident WA permit as WA is shall issue for non residents and I can just change my OR permit address. That would make be legal up and down the coast.

The new business would benefit from the CA residency.

What it takes to get a permit: it's who you know, or who you blow. In the PRK, both being a requirement is quite likely.

Are you a resident? Have you followed the Peruta case? SD County Sheriff is GTG on CCW once it clears higher vourts or appeals. Orange County to the north hired more people for it's CCW office. Changes are coming.

The ruling of the 9th on Peruta vs. San Diego County Sheriff addresses the good cause statement on an app for CCW. It was ruled unconstitutional. So when the ruling is finalized personalprotection will suffice on an application.
Additionally the 10 day waiting period has been ruled unconstituional. The reason being that if you have a ccw or are in the database as a gun owner, a quick background check will suffice. There is still a lot of work to be done on that one but it's a good start.
The biggest problem is our AG is a gun grabbing democrat psycho and intends to run for Barbara Boxers senate seat in 2016.
We have a pretty active political message board if you want to keep an eye on it.

I know of all the screw California people out there but we could use help. Remember, what happens here spreads across the US. Think of supporting the California Rifle and Pistol Assn. I think they do more for us than the NRA.

Scott,

Don't know if you're a beer drinker, but if so, you owe to yourself to check out Ballast Point Brewery. Best IPA....IN THE WORLD! laugh

They have several locations.

Only been to SD once but if I go again Ballast would be on my short list...

My son says we will be checking it out. Went to a cigar bar last night owned by two Cubans. Has some wonderful beers and a great cigar.

I don't think that CA will ever become officially "shall issue". However, many of our counties are effectively just that, and other counties are having their hands slapped to the point (lawsuit wise) that CA CCW will become very commonplace.

Ballast Point Sculpin - yummm. Though for SD area IPAs, I really have to give the crown to Alpine's "Hoppiness" brews - both "Pure" and "Exponential". Take the drive and get ye to the brewpub itself, should you have the chance. Otherwise, just head on over to O'Brien's. Then there's Green Flash's West Coast IPA, Stone's offerings etc...

IMNSHO, there is more top notch craft beer being brewed in just SD county than is being brewed in a bunch of states.

i can answer your ccw questions:
get in the car, and head east, when you see a big river in front of you, stop and take a leak on the california side.
Cross the bridge, into free country. You don't need no stinkin permit to carry in free country.
It's only a few hours till freedom.

Sadly I am not an IPA lover at all. Generally I like my beer dark enough to safely view a solar eclipse through the glass with no eye strain.

Happy Birthday Scott!
