I'm looking at this scope and others (Leupold VX 3 4.5-14x40) for hunting elk and deer out west. The scope will be going on a Sako in 300 WSM. If you are familiar with this scope, could you tell me about it? Likes and dislikes. Thanks.

I have two of the ss3-15 scopes. Initially I had one on a 300wm for Colorado elk, but changed my mind before the trip. Ended up with a vx6 instead for better glass shorter turrets and weight savings.

i am currently using this scope and have had it for about 8 months. I like it really well. I use mine for hunting as well. I hunt coyotes with it almost daily, and used it on a couple of deer this fall. The scope has been very repeatable, and thus very reliable. I haven't had to re zero it yet. I replaced a Leupold vari x II 6x18 fine duplex with this scope. I really liked the fine duplex. I have found that the swfa set on 7x is very close to the leupold set on 6x. About 80% of my coyotes are shot at this setting, and it has been working well. At 3 or 4x the cross hairs are pretty fine. They would be hard to see in a dark forest in low light. Above that they would be fine. I never go that low so it is not an issue. The glass is quite good. This scope is heavier than the leupolds, or other hunting scopes, but for the durability, its worth the trade off for me. I think you will like it if you try it. I was laying in the snow the other day and shot a rock about the size of grapefruit with it at 550yds. The scope has just been very dependable.
