I have often thought that I would rather have one of those than a WASR (since they are still floating around the same money), but having never operated one myself, I also would like to hear what anyone has to say.

Could you be a little more specific?

I had one. Out of a hundred rounds or so it jammed once.
Despite supposedly having a match grade barrel, and getting rave reviews from people, with painstakingly assembled handloads it would only do about 3 MOA with a cold barrel. Thereafter it was minute of jihadi at bad breath range.
I dumped it a few weeks ago.
I might someday play with a quality milled AK, but it's not likely.

3 MOA ain't bad.......for an AK-47. I've heard a lot of claims but have yet to see one shoot a 1" group. I seriously doubt you would get much better with a milled version. Great guns for their intended purpose but shooting groups was never their strong suit.

I had a scope mount for mine, made by Midwest Industries. With it locked down as tight as possible, there was still noticeable flex in the mount/receiver walls. I'm guessing a milled receiver might be stiffer?

I'm guessing a milled receiver might be stiffer? Yes, it would be stiffer but may or may not be any more accurate. Most people who are really into this platform claim the milled rifles aren't any more accurate than the stamped ones and my little experience with them mirrors that. What I think affects the accuracy most on these is the long piston, the off center bolt and loose tolerances.

I'm sticking with my old Arsenal SA93, milled receiver AK. I have not found a better one yet.

I might someday play with a quality milled AK, but it's not likely. Not sure what you think you'll get out of a milled AK other than more weight. It's been shown more times than I can count that the milled AK's are no more accurate or reliable than the stamped receivers. Receiver flex is not the cause of AK inaccuracy. The biggest culprit is the massive bolt carrier and piston. Next it's the barrel flex you get from the barrel mounted front sight base. There are sub 2 MOA AK's out there, they were made by Valmet and they go for a small fortune these days. The AK-74's have much less barrel flex and tend to shave 1 MOA off of what your average 7.62 AK will do. That's anywhere from 1.5 - 3 MOA.

What I think affects the accuracy most on these is the long piston, the off center bolt and loose tolerances. The chambers are generous for maximum reliability in nasty conditions. Both AK rounds have a very radical taper, again for maximum reliability, and sharp tapered rounds are never conducive to great accuracy. The bolt lockup is slightly more generous than most rifles, again for reliability to the detriment of accuracy. But like you said, the real culprit is the bolt carrier, piston, and front sight base.

if I could find a 1/2-3/4 MOA AK for $1000 I would buy it. I just can't see spending that much for a 3-4 MOA gun.

Theses rifles are listed around the same price as the WASR-10's I see on various sites.

nitrided barrels, does not mention piston or piston chamber treatment, maybe a cheaper mini 30 or like that. If it was a 2MOA gun with decent ammo would be cool.

Hopefully not too much off topic but Palmetto came out with their own AK-47 at the SHOT SHOW. Looks nice and suppose to be available in 60 days. I've been in the market for one and think I will wait to buy this one.
