Yeah, the pass play that was called for the last play was a very low percentage play for the situation and position on the field. Low percentage to the point of utter stupidity, given the other options available. That being said, it came very close to working, except for the one thing nobody seems to be talking about. In the post game interview, a still shellshocked young rookie made a quiet statement. He said he saw the receivers stacked, recognized it as a pick or a jam on one of the d-backs, avoided the pick, and jumped the pass on the intended receiver. It wasn't an accident. It wasn't luck. He read the play, and he saw it coming. Had he been jammed, or missed the INT or bat down on the pass, he would have been skewered like a goat and put over a hot fire almost instantaneously. BUT, he didn't. He did his job, and did it exceptionally well, even more so for a rookie. IMO, there were several players far more valuable than Tom Brady on that field.

In the end Wilson choked.

The offensive coordinator and the head coach ought to be tarred, feathered and run out of town on a rail for making such a call.

+1. The talking heads on sports radio are saying it is one of the dumbest plays in the history of organized sports. The Seahawks are an emotionally charged team and could implode as a result of this. Why didn't Wilson call a time out and ask the coaches, wtf is up with this play?

Seattle saw that NE had their run D on the field with Butler, the Pats 5th DB on the roster, and called 3 plays, 2 down was going to be a quick slant, actually a Pats specialty, and this was to be followed by 2 Lynch runs on 3rd and 4th down, and leaving no time on the clock.

The patriots ran that slant play in practice many times with BB stopping practice to yell at the DB's to stay focused as he assured them they would see that play in the game.

Butler stated after the game that he recognized the play at the snap and stepped in front of the receiver.

BTW, Butler has his own T shirts today, The Butler Did It.

From an offensive perspective, three things can happen when you pass. Two of them are bad.

1. Completion
2. Incomplete Pass
3. Interception

I could have cared less who won that football game, but anyone who ever played a down of football, and even the dallas cowboy cheerleaders know that if you have less than 60 seconds left in a ball game, and you have the ball on the plus 2 yard line, you don't pass.

Wilson didn't choke. If anything, the reciever ran a lazy route after seeing Butler 7 yards off of him. Wilson threw a good pass.

Problem was, Butler was keying on that play, and streaked to the ball at the snap. Great defensive play..

Idiotic play call.

Idiotic play call for sure.

BUT---Wilson did NOT put that ball where he should have AND the receiver did not square up to QB or try to block out the defender in any way.

Not only was it a bad call, but very poorly executed by Wilson and his WR...........

It ain't sexy, but 3 yards and a cloud of dust would have won the game.

Seriously, I haven't seen many players who play stronger at the end of a game as Lynch.

It's reported this morning that the pats have been running that very play in practice to prep the defense. Butler reacted instantly. That's good coaching, and great talent on defense.

Yep.
Butler saw it coming from the snap and straight blew Lockette up. He never had a shot at it.
