Its was one of the few times in the last five years a receiver "paid" for going into the middle.....

I get a kick out of the whole Super Bowl crap; teams play all year with ninny rules and enforcement, but the last two Super Bowls they just let them play.

I haven't seen anything today, but I'd bet Wilson checked out of the run.

He looked pretty "green" after the interception....

I'm not so sure it was a terrible play call. They didn't have time for three runs but did have time for a quick pass and two runs if the pass was incomplete.

Just food for thought.

In any case the SeaHags lost, and that's a good thing. laugh laugh

Still, WTF would you throw a slant into the middle? Sidelines and corners are your friends.

It was an epically bad call.

I'll go against the grain and say it was NOT an idiotic play call, no matter what Chris Collinsworth and the other armchair quarterbacks might say. It was a great play call that went bad in the execution. It was a good play call, could've easily gone the other way if any of a hundred tiny things had gone differently.

We've all seen touchdowns scored on that same play time and again... the quick slant to the slot receiver is a very high percentage play, usually good for 3-10 yards and if the safeties are playing the run, it can break the game open.

Patriots practiced that play on both sides of the ball. They've scored TD's and first downs with it multiple times. Butler recognized it and aggressively defensed it.

Big deal. I was busy all weekend moving house, I saw the last 5 minutes of the game with a cup of green tea and a bellyful of takeout Chinese. Life was--and is-- very, very good.

They had a time out, and plenty of time for wilson to roll out, and dump the ball OB to kill the clock if nothing happened.

Fact is, Lynch could have walked in.

I could have cared less who won that football game, but anyone who ever played a down of football, and even the dallas cowboy cheerleaders know that if you have less than 60 seconds left in a ball game, and you have the ball on the plus 2 yard line, you don't pass.

Jeez. You gonna drag out that old quote that George S. Halas uttered nearly a century ago?

That's some up-to-date football wisdom there, bro!!

Armchair QBs aren't the only one calling it BAD.

But, since you don't care, it doesn't matter.

Idiotic play call.

Yep.
Butler saw it coming from the snap and straight blew Lockette up. He never had a shot at it.

Read an interview about that recently. Butler said he knew it was a pass from the moment they broke the huddle and said "hey, I'd throw it at me, too" so he jumped the route (only chance he had to make any play) and the rest is history.

That call is, without a doubt, the worst call in the history of football championship games. Given that all the other sports have a series to decide the victor, this call may be the worst in the history of championships.

"Fact is"???

I'm not disagreeing with the supposition that the percentage play call was to let Lynch run the ball... but Seattle wasn't running the ball with impunity in the 4th quarter, and their 3rd down efficiency was only 3/10 for the whole game (and a goal line offense is, essentially a 3rd down offense).

Weren't no "fact is".

If, if, if...

smile

If Lynch runs in for a touchdown, then Kearse gets credited with one of the greatest catches in history, laying on his back juggling, but finally grabbing it.

all for nought, though...

He better be careful talking like that! Pats been known to intercept a signal or two!

That trendy, newfangled football wisdom has got OkOk dangling from this ceiling fan right about now.

They weren't running with impunity? What game did you watch?

You have the ball less than 5 feet away from the win, timeouts, and you're averaging 5.6 yards PER CARRY.

Run. The. Ball.
