I love your attempt at humor. Quote"Our plan is to set the bench rest competition shooters on their rear end against their $1500 actions".

Good luck with that. Please keep us updated and let us know how the "word class" part works out for you. And yes, I did get a kick out of it.

I do have a couple of questions:
1. Do you think that the auxiliary recoil lug is big enough: thickness, length, etc? Thanks for the idea. I'll keep it in mind for building my next 450 Ackley Mag, or Lott.
2. How many grains of weight did that "lightened" cocking piece net you? I do like the way you did the new sear engagement surface. Surface grinder?
All things are good for thinking about.

I have been sporterizing Mausers for 49 years.
Those pics show a shop will uncluttered floor space. I gotta admire that.

Good luck on the project! Would like to see the finished pics as well--particularly the stock.
Especially glad to see you implemented one of those flexible clip slot actions...am always on the lookout for a particular few of those--simply to save their owners from inherent and unsolvable accuracy problems. You gotta give back to the community...:)
Prefer the positive lock time of stock cocking piece & pin myself. That way I have time to check my phone between pulling the trigger and ignition.

All things are good for thinking about. I gained a few ounces in weight. The sear engagement was done with a porcelin stone. Made a great finish. Its the ones I use on 1911 slides. The double lug I think is big enough. More of more surface area for bedding. Will have it bedded this weekend.

Your chambering selection is not quite "world class". The ultimate world class chambering would be Mule Deer's B-29.

Here is the link to the finished product. We are humorous, and smiling to boot. Came out great. Been a GREAT project. http://www.mossbergmvp.com/index.php?threads/mauser-98-project.1341/

What could people who want to use a 98 Mauser for a custom hunting rifle learn from this project? Obviously they are not going to want that type of stock and such a heavy barrel. Are those the key to the excellent accuracy?

Too bad they could not have found a solid bottom FN single shot action. Those were the ultimate back in the day.
