Bill passed the 2nd reading in the House, to make death by firing squad an option over death by lethal injection, for those, sentenced to death in Wyoming. If death by firing squad then was chosen, the inmate would have to be unconscious via chemical sedation, immediately prior to the action by the firing squad. This is part of the bill. Are there any other states that use death by firing squad for a condemned person?

I believe Oklahoma is the only state right now with the firing squad method of execution.

That's what I was wondering. So the sedation prior to firing squad will be a unique condition of wyoming's bill?

Utah can use a firing squad, but the inmate doesn't have to be sedated. It was eliminated in 2004 but is still available as an option for 3 of Utah's death row inmates. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_punishment_in_Utah

I read that the Utah legislature is considering reinstating it because the drugs for injection might not be available when needed.

Being debated in Utah right now. As stated above, there needs to be an alternative to lethal injection because the currently approved drugs aren't made in the US, and the only European company that makes them is balking at selling them for the purpose of execution.
So they either need to come up with other drugs (please see any veterinarian, you idiots!) or have another non-injection method as an option.

ISIS could probably underbid any potential contractors. If you sedate the people before the sentence is carried out, any method is as good as any other. Hanging, guillotine, swimming pool, . . . .

I believe I read that OK. wants to go to a gas chamber. Take out the oxygen in the air, they die by 100% nitrogen to breath.
Something to that effect.
Texas is still using the same drug (what ever it is) they just get a Texas compounding pharmacy to make up a batch for when it needed.

Yeah, one legislator is proposing an all Nitrogen chamber. Doesn't a body freak out with all Nitrogen and choke, gasp, flop about.? Don't know if that will ever pass... Body doesn't fight it, goes into a drunken state...
I've heard that the body doesn't fight Helium, just goes to sleep.

If their to be unconscious anyway? Really? There are so many lethal alternatives out there, must we be so politically correct. Someone mentioned a Vet, good idea! Cyanide is also easily usable, and flawless when done correctly.
