Apparently the Bolsheviks are alive and well in the former USSR.
Boris Nemtsov, a Russian opposition politician and former deputy prime minister, has been shot dead in central Moscow, the Interior Ministry said early on Saturday.
Nemtsov, 55, an outspoken critic of President Vladimir Putin, had been due to take part on Sunday in the first big opposition protest in months in the Russian capital.
He was shot four times late on Friday night, not far from the Kremlin in the center of Moscow. Police cars blocked the street where he was shot. An ambulance was also nearby.
"Nemtsov B.E. died at 2340 hours as a result of four shots in the back," an Interior Ministry spokeswoman said by telephone.

Making Putin look like a tyrant by killing his opponent is chess. Maybe. But sometimes a tyrant reaches a point where he's under the impression he can get away with anything. Putin might be at that point right now.

From 1976–81, he studied physics at State University of Gorky, where, in 1985, he earned his Ph.D in Physics and Mathematics. Nemtsov was a candidate of physico-mathematical sciences and the author of more than 60 academic publications related to quantum physics, thermodynamics and acoustics. He invented an acoustics laser and a novel design of antennas for space apparatus. Can't have those smart azz scientist mucking up the world created by lawyers, bankers and spooks. One of the few areas that a SASER ( acoustical laser) device is already expected to be applied to is that of high-precision ultrasounds in medical imaging. Terahertz frequencies mean in fact that scientists and engineers could use the device to probe and manipulate electronic devices at nanoscale level. Such devices could be high precision measurement instruments and they could lead to high energy focused sound. Using SASERs to manipulate electrons inside semiconductors could theoretically result in terahertz-frequency computer processors, much faster than the current chips Bill Gates might have had him shot.
