Welcome Squidman, You`ll really enjoy this site. Savages in my opinion, are one of the finest levers made. How much for your stock?

Dusty

Right after I got my M99 I looked pretty hard for a replacement stock/forearm. My M99 is used alot as a general purpose rifle so I didn't want to trash the original pieces. I found several places to get the buttstock but didn't find a forearm anywhere.
Decided on refinishing the stock instead. Rifle magazine had a recent article that gave detailed instructions on how to refinish a stock the old fashioned way using Linseed oil and elbow grease. Even a rookie blockhead like me should be able to do it. My grandfather is serving as Technical Advisor (It is his rifle). Should have it done by spring.

ZM
Beautiful gun, I too have an E and the blonde hardwood is horrible! Im working on a stock right now, its almost ready to stain. Its the style with the crescent buttplate and the shnable forend. Still looking for a buttplate *hint*

Someone mentioned the stock would be dry in some places and remain tacky in others while drying, one thing i like to do is to wet the stock with water then dry it carefully with a heat gun to raise the grain. Then go over it with steel wool and repeat until it stays smooth after drying. This has worked for me with a couple other stocks ive refinished.
