Need to slap a scope on my 22lr RAR. Was going to just put a weaver 4x38 or 6x38 on it. But. Any thoughts on this Nikon designed for 22LR? Suggestions welcomed. http://www.nikonsportoptics.com/Nikon-Products/Riflescopes/PROSTAFF-4x32-Rimfire-Matte-Nikoplex.html

I'd roll with the Weaver, just me.

I sorta like this approach in the foreground. It shot a 1-3/8" group of 5 at 200 yards 8 days ago. Shilen barrel on a Stevens 414. 16" twist, Eley Black

My rimfire scope of choice is the Leupold 3-9 with AO. Second choice is a 2 1/2 - 8 with parallax adjusted to 60 yds.
I'm a Leupold snob and I don't like the lines of the Nikon or Weaver scopes--but that's just me.

My main rimfire squeezes are Leupold or Redfield 2-7x, or a straight 4x or better yet, straight 6x.
Most of mine have the Leupold 2-7x or straight 6x.
On a side-note, it's hard to be a good quality straight 6x on many applications.

I second dustoffer, either the Leupold 3-9 with AO or the 2-7 with 60 yard parallax set. Have both and are nice

I put a 4x32 Weaver Classic on a 39A and have been pleasantly surprised. Good optic and the duplex cross hair is the perfect thickness...

I've got two of the Nikon 4x. Very satisfied with both. One on a Remington 511 and other on a cz452. No problems, hold zero, both have been wet with no difficulties.

I just received the Nikon 4x but haven't mounted it on my 10/22 yet.
(I did see a Leupold rimfire recently listed in the classifieds)

You can't go wrong the Prostaff line, I have the 4X on Marlin and when you get older like me you will want more like a 3x9x40 on it.

The 4X Nikon or Weaver are both excellent values and they are as reliable as anything around.
I really don't see a big need for a variable on a .22 rifle.

How far do you want to shoot? Targets or game? Anything from 25 yards to 100+. Longer distance needs higher power for the most part especially if you are shooting at paper. AO or side focus is a must for anything other than a specific 22LR scope.

Many say you don't need much magnification on a .22LR. But you must remember that you often shoot at small targets. If you get to messing around trying to shoot something like spent shotgun shells at 50 yards, you will want some magnification.
When you combine the magnification with the small targets, some adjustment for parallax is mighty handy.
I really like the Leupold Compact 3-9x33 Adjustable Objective or Extended Focus Range. They are small and do what you need.

I have the Nikon 3x9 efr rimfire scope on my cz and it has performed great. I would have no problem suggesting it to anyone. Also the sightron rimfire is on my 597 and it is also very good. Either will work great

Leupold AO scopes are the gold standard for upper end rim fire scopes. I do have a 3x9x36 Sightron AO big sky that is just as nice. Leupolds are lighter though.

I also agree that their duplex crosshair is the perfect thickness on their rimfire line. I found the Leupold to be a bit too thin for me. Would like to try out one of the Nikon rimfire scopes. I have pretty much settled on Weaver as my preferred normal powered scope on rimfires.

(I did see a Leupold rimfire recently listed in the classifieds) Got it mounted and sighted in. Positioning was simple. The eye relief works well for me. Quick to get a good sight picture. Very bright. I'm not scope savvy enough to evaluate the reticle. Works well for me at 50yds.
